About CE&NG

The Computer Engineering and Networks Group (CE&NG) inherited the experience and know-how owned by the Centro di Studi per l'Elaborazione Numerale dei Segnali (Research Center on Digital Signal Processing CENS) and acquired in nearly thirty years devoted to scientific research in the ICT domain. The research center CENS was founded and supported by both the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the Politecnico di Torino at the end of the sixties, and it was active in the years from 1970 to 1999.

In the first decade of its life, CENS oriented its research activities mainly to the analysis and processing of speech signals, focusing on techniques for speech synthesis and recognition.

Starting from the eighties, the rapid evolution of Computer Science, the deep changes in Information Technologies and the increasing need for qualified research in the information and communication areas led to extend the scientific interests of CENS to other research fields, such as Computer Engineering, Systems and Control, and Communication Networks.

Nowadays, most of the institutional scientific activities of the Computer Engineering and Networks Group focus on topics belonging to the computer and communications domains. Researchers in the group are currently involved in studies concerning communication protocols, computer networks, industrial communications, real-time and embedded systems, formal methods and s/w tools for the description and analysis of distributed and concurrent systems and the verification of security properties of cryptographic protocols and networks with important applications in several areas of engineering.

As in the past, researches are also carried out in cooperation with the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica (DAUIN) of the Politecnico di Torino, but often involve many other national/international industrial and academic partners.

Moreover, the Computer Engineering and Networks Group is working in strict cooperation with the IEIIT territorial research team located in Padova and with professors and researchers of the Department of Information Engineering - University of Padova, since the foundation of IEIIT in September 2002.
